MAO is a non-governemntal, apolitical association having as main aim the promoting of the social and human rights of the highly discriminated and stimatized groups, with a special focus on women belonging to these groups and youngsters who due to discrimination are not able to have a decent personal and professional development. MAO functioned as an activits’ group since 2007, when we started implementing workshops in school promoting the legal rights, from 2009 the group expanding their activities through working with the students’ associations’ women’s branches and offering legal capacity building support for the associations working on human rights. At the end of 2010, the association acquired a legal statute, according to the Romanian law, and started the cooperation with the youngsters’ associations working on human rights. MAO’s team is highly interdisciplinary – legal advisors, human rights educators, project managers, journalists. In 2011, MAO is the leading association trying to establish in Dolj County a network on human rights education.
MAO’s initiatives as an informal group 2007-2010:
- Workshops on legal rights in highschools – 2008, 2009, 2010
- Workshops in women rights and gender issues – with students’ associations and youth NGOs – 2009, 2010, 2010
- Legal support initiatives for youth NGOs – 2010, 2011
- Developing the county network on human rights in 2011
- Supporting the youth NGOs working on human rights in developing the legal rights training course – 2011
Also, from 2011, we started cooperating with other youth NGOs with focus on human rights from abroad – associations from Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, Turkey – on Youth in Action projects and human rights initiatives.
